Kneber Botnet Virus Infects 75,000 Corporate
According to reports from researchers at Internet security company NetWitness, a computer virus has infected 75,000 systems in 2500 business and government agencies around the world.
According to NetWitness, the virus, a version of Zeus botnet is called “Kneber” is working to connect the infected system, collect login credentials to online financial systems, social networking sites and email systems and then report the information to criminals who can use it to enter into account, the company and the government to steal information, and personal copy, online and financial identity.
NetWitness, based in Herndon, also said it had found a botnet since last month during a routine dissemination of monitoring software. NetWitness said the attack had lasted for about 18 months and appear to originate in Europe and China. The Company has shared the findings with the target companies and government agencies.
NetWitness CEO Amit Yoran also added the statement. “The system is compromised with botnet gives the attackers not only with user credentials and confidential information, inside the compromised networks.”
“This is a massive compromise of corporate networks has reached epidemic levels. Cyber criminal elements, such as crew Kneber, calmly and persistently target and compromise thousands of government and commercial organizations around the world,” said Yoran.
